Bingaman: Over $4 Million to Benefit Three New Mexico Airports Print Share

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman today announced that three New Mexico airports have been awarded grants through the U.S. Department Transportation to make improvements at the airports.

The following airports have been awarded grants:

  • Los Alamos Airport - $3.43 million: Funding will be used for pavement rehabilitation of runway 9-27, which is required to preserve and extend the life of the runway.
  • Cavern City Air Terminal in Carlsbad - $211,050: Funding will be used to install perimeter fencing and for runway and taxiway markings at the airport.
  • Roswell International Air Center - $767,111: Funding will be used for the rehabilitation of taxiway G, to replace the airport rotating beacon, to make improvements to the terminal building, and to conduct a Wildlife Hazard Assessment at the airport.

"Airports are important to a community's economic development, but can be costly to maintain.  The funding awarded today will help New Mexico communities with upgrades and improvements to help them continue to providing safe and reliable air service to residents," Bingaman said.
