Bingaman: Nearly $5 Million Released to Improve N.M. Regional Airports Print Share

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman today announced that more than a dozen airports will share $4.6 million to make necessary improvements.

“This funding will be used on a variety of initiatives aimed at keeping our state’s airports safe,” Bingaman said.

Funding, awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation, will be distributed to airports as follows:

  • $685,000 Los Alamos to make drainage improvements, among other things
  • $253,981 Alamogordo-White Sands Regional to construct culverts under taxiway
  • $425,236 Angel Fire for perimeter fencing
  • $475,000 Artesia to reconstruct access road
  • $190,000 Alexander Municipal/Belen to install an Automated Weather Observing System
  • $478,444 Cavern City Air Terminal/Carlsbad, to install fencing
  • $360,098 Silver City to install fencing
  • $364,604 Hatch Municipal to pave the access road leading to airport
  • $810,576 Lea County Regional to install lights on primary runway
  • $100,000 Lordsburg Municipal to replace an unreliable rotating beacon
  • $384,728 Sierra Blanca Airport Commission to improve drainage around runway
  • $50,000 Socorro Municipal to update Airport Master Plan
  • $100,000 Truth of Consequences Municipal to fund airport equipment that will keep runway free of debris and snow
