Many early members of Congress, one Vice President of the United States, congressional staff members, journalists and even the famous musician John Philip Sousa are buried in a unique cemetery in southeast D.C. known as the Congressional Cemetery.
Though not originally intended as a cemetery for Members of Congress, the cemetery became linked to the Congress through the number of former Congresspersons buried there. Over time, however, fewer members of Congress were buried there, and the cemetery became a lesser-known attraction.
