Weekly Update: The Rebuild America Jobs Act and ESEA Markup Print Share
U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman discusses the Rebuild America Jobs Act, legislation based on the president's jobs bill that would invest billions in infrastructure projects around the country and create or support thousands of jobs. The bill would be paid for by a surtax on those with an income exceeding $1million—and the 0.7 percent tax would apply only to income exceeding $1million. Bingaman supports the bill, which is slated to be voted on by the full Senate Thursday, November 3. Bingaman also highlights the recent committee vote on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (also known as the No Child Left Behind Act).
