The Washington, D.C. Metro System

The Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA) manages the system of buses and trains that bring public transportation to the DC metro area. The complementary systems serve more than 1.1 million residents and visitors from around the world every day, and allow you to visit and explore the history and beauty of the nation's capital without the hassles of a car.

Both the bus and rail systems can take you to places like the Smithsonian Museums, the Pentagon, and the Arlington National Cemetary, as well as whisk you to many of the District's famous neighborhoods for a cultural experience like no other in the world.
