Weekly Update: Essenatial Air Services in the FAA Reauthorization Print Share

U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman highlights a provision that is important to New Mexico and other rural states within the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill - the essential air services - currently being debated in the Senate.  The essential air services provides parts of New Mexico with commercial air service; the FAA bill would ensure continuity of the essential air services, as well as modernizing air traffic control technology at the national level.  Currently, the U.S. uses ground-level monitoring systems; this bill would update those systems to the much-safer, satellite system.
