Weekly Update: Medal of Honor for SFC Petry and an Energy Committee Markup Print Share
U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman begins this week's update by speaking about the Medal of Honor ceremony for New Mexico native U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry. SFC Petry is an Army Ranger who was awarded the medal for his heroic actions in Afghanistan in 2008; he has served six tours of duty in Afghanistan, two in Iraq, and is currently stationed in Washington state. Bingaman then highlights some details of this week's Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee markup. The legislation is now ready for consideration by the full Senate.
CORRECTION: Bingaman said SFC Petry had lost his right hand and arm when a grenade detonated; SFC Petry in fact lost his right hand at the wrist, not including his arm.
